All About Me

My name is Courtney, or Miss M as my students know me. I am a first year 5th grade teacher in the sometimes sunny Orlando. It's my personal belief that my students are the best in the school, and I try to get them to carry on like that! We deal with a lot in my class... FCAT, the pressures of being a 1st year charter school in an A school area, and growing up under expectations.

I believe that students learn best by being able to work hands-on with the material we are learning, as well as following a technological stream. We use many websites on a daily basis, but mostly:

As a teacher, I try to be tough on my students but in a fun way... meaning, I have my expectations of them for how their work should be handed in, behaviors in and out of my class, and ways to ask for help. Within the expectations, we spend our days learning in small group settings, using projects, and interacting with our SmartBoard any chance we get. 

This blog has a double purpose in me writing it: I am using it to try to connect with other teachers around the United States to share ideas and inspiration, as well as a place for my Learning Journal in a grad class at UCF. 

Outside of teaching and grad classes, I love Starbucks, all things Disney, my charming gent of a boyfriend, and obsessing over anything Doctor Who or Veronica Mars. I would enjoy running as well if I would stop being so lazy! ;)
